The Seahawks, looking for a new direction at quarterback, signed Matt Flynn this offseason to a lucrative three-year contract with the hopes that he would lead the team into a promising future. Just a month later Seattle drafted what they expected to be his backup, Russell Wilson, in the third round. After a surprising preseason, however, the tables have turned.
Wilson was magical in two preseason games, passing for nearly ten yards per attempt with four touchdowns and no interceptions. The 5-11 quarterback won the starter's job outright from Flynn and is an intriguing offensive leader for the Seahawks, dangerous through the air as well as on the ground.
On the other side, the Arizona Cardinals are hopeful their gamble at quarterback will pay off. Despite a rocky preseason, the team named John Skelton the starting quarterback, with Kevin Kolb set to look on as his backup. Skelton threw just one touchdown and completed 56 percent of his passes in four games in the preseason, yet Kolb's preseason was just as shaky as he struggled to consistently run the offense.
Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch's status for the game is uncertain as he deals with back spasms.
Fox will have coverage of the game with kickoff set for 4:25 p.m. ET.
