NFL Injury Report: NFC East Relatively Healthy After Week 1

The NFC East teams didn't suffer any season-altering injuries in Week 1, keeping everyone feeling good going into next Sunday.

Eagles Vs. Browns, Week 1: Reaction From Cleveland To Tough Opening Season Loss

The Cleveland Browns embraced a new era for 2012 by drafting two rookies in the first round: quarterback Brandon Weeden and running back Trent Richardson. But those rookies struggled in their NFL debuts, and the Cleveland Browns lost a heartbreaker to the Philadelphia Eagles, 17-16.

Chris Pokorny of SB Nation's Cleveland Browns blog, Dawgs By Nature, reacted to the disappointing season opener.

People questioned the Cleveland Browns' defense due to injuries to players like Phil Taylor and Chris Gocong. People were optimistic and excited about seeing Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson, the two players the front office invested in during April's draft, make their debut. What resulted was a 17-16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in which the defense was very good and the offense was...abysmal.

I understand that a quarterback can look like a rookie, but Weeden was worse than that against the Eagles.

Pokorny went on the praise the defense, but ultimately the critique came back to the rookie quarterback Weeden.

I'm very disappointed with Weeden's performance, because this is not the level of incompetence I expected. In the long run, though, we need to stay focused as fans. For as bad as Weeden was, you don't give up on the quarterback you committed to after his first game as a rookie. Hopefully Weeden is humble about this, re-gathers himself, and comes back with a better performance next week against the Bengals.

At least we know the defense can bring it.

Eagles Vs. Browns, Week 1: Philly Fan Lights Up Michael Vick In Narrow Win

The City of Brotherly Love breathed a collective sigh of relief as the Philadelphia Eagles narrowly escaped an upset at the hands of the upstart Cleveland Browns, 17-16, on Sunday in Cleveland.

One of the most discouraging aspects of the loss was the play of quarterback Michael Vick, who finished the game with four interceptions while being sacked twice. He would end up with 307 yards through the air, including two touchdown passes in the close victory.

Philly fans are never ones to mince words, and the reaction over at Bleeding Green Nation was what one would expect following a lackluster effort from a team thought to have a real chance at postseason success in 2012. Joe_D summed up the sentiment of a lot of fans:

We'll get absolutely pounded next week...

The main concern here is Vick and how he's played post MM2.

First, he was NEVER a great QB, even in Atlanta he was a run first guy and self-admitted slacked on studying to perfect his dog fighting craft. This is why many of us (including me) were STUNNED that he was even handed the starting job. Though obviously, in hind sight, he's a much better QB than Kolb who has also regressed as a player.

Sometimes, especially in Philly, a win feels like a loss.

Eagles Vs. Browns Game Recap: Philadelphia Wins With Late TD

It didn't come easy, but the Philadelphia Eagles were able to grind out a 17-16 win over the Cleveland Browns Sunday. The Eagles trailed late until they mounted a drive in the game's final moments, with Michael Vick completing a 4-yard pass to Clay Harbor with 1:18 left in the game.

Box Score Hero: LeSean McCoy

LeSean McCoy carried the Eagles' offense today, and it was puzzling that they didn't go to him more, given Vick's struggles. He had 110 yards on 20 carries and was consistently able to pick up big first downs.

Quarterbacks Struggle

Brandon Weeden had a rough debut as the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback, completing just 12-of-35 passes for 118 yards and four interceptions. The sense of panic could be felt at Cleveland Browns Stadium immediately, and he'll need to get back on track quickly.

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick didn't do much better, completing 29-of-56 passes for 317 yards. Vick also threw four interceptions, including one returned by D'Quell Jackson for a touchdown that was the only Browns TD on the afternoon.

Richardson Quiet

Trent Richardson also made his debut for the Browns today, where he had a quiet day of rushing for just 39 yards on 19 carries. He did bring some life to the crowd though, with this trucking of an Eagles defender.

Vick Throws Game-Winning TD Against Browns

In a game that was entirely closer than anyone predicted, a late touchdown bailed out Michael Vick on a notorious four interception day. Vick threaded the needle, and TE Clay Harbor caught the four yard pass.

Emotions were high, fans were fighting in the stands, so the Eagles must be thrilled to get out of dodge with the 'W'. As bad as Vick played for much of the game, I don't blame them.

Michael Vick Displays Scrambling, Athleticism, Ill-Advised Jump Passes

The ability to escape a pass rush is a beautiful thing. It extends a play, demoralizes a defensive line, and adds an almost super-human air to one's game that leaves the jaws of fans firmly on the floor. We've seen Michael Vick dance in the backfield to find a small opening and make a huge play, but I'm not so sure we've ever seen a Turkey-Bowl-jump-pass-interception.

It's a thing of beauty– horrible, soul-crushing beauty.

With three defenders swarming, and no receiver ready for the ball it's hard to see what Vick did. All I know is that I'm drawing up this play when Brett Favre and his Wrangler jeans want to ball with me and my friends.

Brandon Weeden Wants To Drape Himself In America Forever

You may remember how much Browns rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden loves America. If you forgot, here's some photographic evidence:

Well, the former Oklahoma State Cowboy took that passion a little further before kickoff against the Eagles, albeit unintentionally, as he found himself trapped under the field-long American flag after the National Anthem.

Trent Richardson To Start For Browns

Despite having arthroscopic knee surgery exactly one month ago, the Cleveland Browns' rookie running back Trent Richardson will reportedly start the team's season opener Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to reports, though, the Browns are expected to use Richardson cautiously, meaning he will not see a full-work load in his NFL debut and instead split carries with Montario Hardesty.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Richardson will see "plenty of touches" Sunday (15-18 was the number he provided during NFL Countdown), while the NFL Network's Albert Breer will be "managed through the game" and not play in third down or passing situations.

Basically, the Browns are going to get their prized 2012 number one pick acclimated to game action in an effort to ensure he can play the entire regular season. Other than his knee, Richardson is in great physical shape, but there's no need to rush him into becoming the team's clear-cut number one back until that knee responds to handling the rigors of the NFL.
