The Houston Texans and quarterback Matt Schaub have agreed on a 4-year, $64 million contract extension, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Schaub will receive a guaranteed $30 million.
Schaub led the Texans to a season-opening 30-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, completing 20 of 31 passes for 266 yards and a touchdown. With the win, Schaub is 33-32 in five-plus seasons as Houston's starting quarterback. In 2011, Schaub missed six games, but the Texans were 7-3 in his starts, allowing them to get a good head start on making the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Schaub threw for over 4,000 yards in each of the two seasons prior to that, including a league-leading 4,770 yards in 2009.
Schaub was set to become a free agent after the season, and as recently Aug. 27, it was reported that an in-season extension would not get done for the 31-year-old quarterback.
