Buddy Nix to remain with Bills, Russ Brandon new CEO, according to report

US PRESSWIRE

Bills general manager Buddy Nix will not be fired by the team, but owner Ralph Wilson is restructuring the front office with the announcement of a new CEO.

Buffalo Bills general manager Buddy Nix will not be fired, but owner Ralph Wilson is reorganizing the front office, according to a report from Alex Marvez of FOX Sports. The Bills have called a noon press conference on Tuesday to announce that Russ Brandon will act as new CEO of the team, and that Nix will stay on board and report to him.

When the Bills sent out the Tuesday morning media advisory for the press conference, there was speculation that it was to announce the firing of Nix -- just one day after the removal of head coach Chan Gailey. But Wilson will not be cleaning house; instead he will keep Nix, who will have Brandon over him. It's still unclear who will have final decision-making authority over the roster, but Brandon will likely have a significant role in the search for a replacement for Gailey.

Jason La Canfora of CBS tweeted that the reorganization likely signals the eventual removal of Nix, with assistant GM Doug Whaley taking over. Albert Breer added that the moves will make Whaley the official GM-in-waiting, and according to La Canfora, that wait may not be long:

Whaley's name has come up as a possibility for several of the openings that were created with the spate of firings on Monday. But for now, Nix can count himself among those who are safe, even if he's keeping the seat warm for Whaley.
