Andy Reid could be the Cardinals next coach by the end of the week as both sides reportedly progress on a deal.

Andy Reid is close to becoming the next head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, a hire that could be announced by the end of the week, according to Adam Schefter.

One day after he was fired as the Eagles coach, Reid was reportedly making progress on a deal that would give him the same title with the Cardinals. Schefter also cited a source who said he was "95 percent" certain Reid would get the job.

The Eagles fired Reid early Monday morning, an expected move after 14 years in Philadelphia. As the 2012 season progressed, Reid was preparing for time his in Philly to come to an end and reportedly started making calls around the league to prepare a staff for another potential opening.

The Cardinals job came open Monday when Ken Whisenhunt was relieved of his duties. Whisenhunt was fired along with GM Rod Graves and almost the entire offensive coaching staff.

Reid would bring plenty of experience to Arizona, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, where the Cardinals ranked last in most categories and are still searching for a quarterback. If Reid does in fact land with the Cards, he would be reunited with quarterback Kevin Kolb, who he worked with in Philadelphia.
