Chris Rainey arrested: Steelers RB charged with battery

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Chris Rainey was arrested on a domestic battery charge on Thursday.

Running back Chris Rainey was arrested in Gainesville, Fla. on a simple battery charge on Thursday morning. Rainey had just completed his rookie season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Witnesses claim to have seen Rainey fighting with a woman over his cellphone. Reportedly, Rainey pulled a woman out of a car, slapped her in the face and then chased after the woman to get his phone from her bag. Upon catching her, both he and the victim fell to the ground. Further investigation found that the victim had been dating Rainey for nine months.

This is not the first run-in with the law for Rainey, who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor stalking while at the University of Florida for texting his girlfriend: "Time to Die Bitch."

The Steelers drafted Rainey in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he had 26 carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes for 60 yards.
