Browns rumors: Michael Lombardi 'in the fold,' per report

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

Rumors swirl in Cleveland about head coaching candidates, as well as the fact that Michael Lombardi is "in the fold" with only his title to be determined.

As the Cleveland Browns are still searching for a new head coach to bring them out of the AFC North gutter, rumors are swirling about who that coach may be. On top of that, there are rumors that NFL analyst Michael Lombardi is already "in the fold" with the Browns, and the team is only waiting to announce his title.

We reported recently that Michael Lombardi is in the Browns' fold, with only his title to be determined. We can imagine something that would be functionally along the lines of special adviser to Joe Banner.

Lombardi and Farmer have known each other since they both worked for the Eagles in the late 1990s.

Before he became a sportswriter and analyst in 2007, Lombardi was hired by former Raiders owner Al Davis to be the team's senior personnel executive in 1998. Before that, he held similar positions with the Eagles, Rams, Browns and 49ers.

The Browns plan to have their head coach search wrapped up by Sunday night and will likely make all hiring announcements at that time.
