RGIII injury update: Redskins QB also had meniscus tear repaired

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III underwent surgery on Wednesday for a complete tear of his LCL and ACL. What the organization hadn't told the media was that Dr. James Andrews also repaired a torn meniscus.

The news, reported by the Washington Post, further creates doubt about the Redskins' reporting and handling of RGIII's injury. Questions remain from Sunday's game regarding just how much information Washington coaches had and how much responsibility they should have taken for their franchise quarterback. It's reported that it was Griffin who told head coach Mike Shanahan that he wanted to play, and that he wasn't prevented from playing fully in Sunday's game -- until his knee collapsed late in the game.

Two meniscus run along the inside of the knee. The medial meniscus runs from the outside of the tibia toward the fibula, while the lateral meniscus connects the top of the tibia to the femur. There are no reports of which meniscus was torn, but in terms of recovery, in both cases, it is likely to be considerably less time than Griffin's ligament recovery.
