Former Bears coach Lovie Smith is on his way to San Diego to interview for the Chargers job, according to reports.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport is reporting that former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith is scheduled to interview with the San Diego Chargers on Friday.
Smith was fired from the Bears on Black Monday after seven seasons. He led Chicago to an 81-63 record, three playoff appearances and one Super Bowl appearance. He is also scheduled to meet with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Chargers still hope to interview Colts OC Bruce Arians and Bengals DC Mike Zimmer. They dismissed Norv Turner and GM A.J. Smith last week.
San Diego has been relatively tight-lipped on its front office search, but the team finally found its GM, hiring Tom Telesco on Wednesday. With a short list of coaching candidates now slated for interview, expect the Chargers to accelerate their search as coaching spots slowly dwindle down.
Jim Mora Jr. is another potential name that has been floated, but he doesn't seem likely to make the jump after a disastrous stint with the Seahawks.
