John Dorsey hired as Chiefs GM

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

Dorsey comes to Kansas City after spending 22 years with the Green Bay front office, most recently as director of football operations.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a new general manager in John Dorsey, according to a tweet from Reid Ferrin of kcchiefs.com. Dorsey has been the Green Bay Packers' director of football operations for the past year, and has worked in the Packers' front office for 22 years.

Dorsey will replace Scott Pioli at general manager, who was let go after four seasons in charge in Kansas City. The Chiefs regressed under Pioli's watch after he tied the team's future to the success of Matt Cassel.

The Chiefs hired former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid as their new head coach a few weeks ago, which was a bit of an odd move considering the team did not have a general manager at that point. Dorsey's main experience background is in college scouting, which he began as a college scout for the Packers in 1991 before moving his way up to director of college scouting. It's not known at this point exactly how much say Reid will have in personnel affairs.
