Seahawks vs. Falcons, score update: Atlanta strikes first, leads 3-0

USA TODAY Sports

Unable to reach the end zone, the Atlanta Falcons settled for a Matt Bryant field goal.

The Atlanta Falcons moved the ball well on their opening drive, but were unable to reach the end zone, settling for a Matt Bryant field goal. They hold a 3-0 lead over the Seattle Seahawks midway through the first quarter.

Leaning heavily on their running backs, both Michael Turner and Jacquizz Rodgers got three carries as Atlanta marched down the field. The matchup between the Falcons' receivers and the Seahawks' talented cornerbacks was the story early -- and Atlanta was unable to get any big pass plays.

Matt Ryan reacted well to an abundance of Seattle pressure, but despite two pump fakes and avoiding a rusher, he was unable to find Roddy White in the end zone. A hustle play on third down by cornerback Richard Sherman resulted in a textbook pass breakup, one that had White questioning the timing of the pass, all while Atlanta kicked the field goal.

Both teams are playing physically, and on their answering drive the Seahawks were unable to make an impact, going three-and-out.
