NFL coaching rumors: Brian Billick, Mike McCoy emerge as top names

Richard Mackson-US PRESSWIRE

Brian Billick and Mike McCoy are causing a commotion with recent head coaching interviews. Here's a look at who they are talking to.

With several teams still in the hunt for a new head coach, two names emerged on Sunday as potential candidates for jobs in Philadelphia and San Diego. Brian Billick and Mike McCoy made a splash at notable names who are both in the mix to take the helm at a new franchise.

Billick reportedly interviewed with the Eagles last Monday, but the news didn't break until Sunday afternoon while he was in the middle of calling the Seahawks-Falcons game at the Georgia Dome. He hasn't coached since his firing from the Baltimore Ravens in 2007, though his name has been brought up for head coaching positions in recent years.

After losing to the Ravens on Saturday, McCoy suddenly became available for an interview with the Chargers on Monday. The Broncos offensive coordinator also drew strong interest from the Cardinals recently, so he may be presented with several options going into 2013.

Billick is the bigger name, of course, with a Super Bowl ring on his finger. He led the 2000 Ravens to a title after crushing the New York Giants in the final game of the year. McCoy fostered the league's second-highest scoring offense in 2012, making him an attractive candidate as well.
