Panthers coaching search: Hue Jackson to interview for OC job

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Former Raiders head coach Hue Jackson will interview for the Panthers' offensive coordinator position on Monday. Would he be a good fit in Carolina?

After former offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski left to become head coach of the Cleveland Browns, the Carolina Panthers began interviewing candidates to replace him. Former Browns head coach Pat Shurmur and former Raiders head coach Hue Jackson were expected to interview with Carolina on Monday.

Jackson spent last season as an assistant coach with the Cincinnati Bengals after one season as the head coach in Oakland. He has plenty of experience as an NFL offensive coordinator, having held the job with three different teams.

Shurmur was fired after two seasons in Cleveland. Both Shurmur and Jackson are known for their ties to the West Coast offense which makes them an interesting fit in Carolina. According to a report from the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers would ask Shurmur to overhaul or even scrap the West Coast offense in favor of a system that better fits Cam Newton the the Panthers' current personnel.

If Jackson does not land in Carolina, he could take over as offensive coordinator in Cincinnati should current offensive coordinator Jay Gruden land a head coaching position.
