Gus Bradley has simple goals for the Jaguars

USA TODAY Sports

New Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley says his main focus with the team is just to get better and that the wins will follow.

Gus Bradley doesn't have plans of grandeur when it comes to the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his introductory press conference on Friday, Bradley repeatedly emphasized that his main goals for the team were "to get better every day" and "to compete in everything they do."

Bradley, who the Jaguars hired on Thursday, also said his goal is to be genuine. He explained that he never had the goal of becoming a head coach or planned for it, but rather he always focused on his current job and the task at hand. After a great run as the Seattle Seahawks defense coordinator, Bradley became a coaching target this off-season and landed in Jacksonville. He said what sold him on the Jacksonville job was the passion from owner Shahid Khan and general manager David Caldwell. For his part, Caldwell said he "knew right away" that Bradley was the man for the franchise.

The first task for Bradley is to assemble a staff of assistant coaches, something he said he does not want to move too quickly in doing. When it came to expectations and timelines, Bradley kept things simple. He reiterated time and again that the focus will be to get better every day and that everything else would take care of itself.

Despite his defensive background, Bradley let it be known that he "doesn't want all games to be 10-7," and that he understands the need to be explosive on offense. As the Jaguars ranked in the bottom four of the league in both offense and defense, there is plenty of room for Jacksonville to meet Bradley's goals and "get better."
