The Jacksonville Jaguars have reportedly interviewed Tom Gamble for their open GM position.

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan has interviewed Tom Gamble as a candidate for the team's next general manager, according to Adam Caplan. The Jaguars fired GM and personnel chief Gene Smith on Monday, and Gamble's name immediately surfaced as one of several potential replacements. Caplan reports that the interview took place on New Year's Day in the Bay Area.

Gamble has been linked to multiple GM jobs that opened up around the league, and is certainly one of the more popular names thanks to the turnaround and success of the San Francisco 49ers. In addition to the Jaguars, the 49ers have reportedly granted the New York Jets and San Diego Chargers permission to interview Gamble.

Gamble has been with the 49ers organization for the past seven years. He's also had success helping building the Colts.

The next personnel chief in Jacksonville will have plenty of work to do. The Jaguars have the No. 2 pick in the 2012 Draft after finishing the season 2-14. Head coach Mike Mularkey has not been fired, despite speculation that he would be a possible victim of the NFL's Black Monday. When Khan hires a new GM, Mularkey's status is likely to be revisited.
