The NFC Championship is underway as the 49ers trail the Falcons. With some help from tight end Vernon Davis, San Francisco is trying to climb back into this game.
The Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers are halfway through their battle to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. It is a close one, with Matt Ryan and the Falcons still in control.
After their hot offense jumped out and took an early 17-point lead on the Niners, San Francisco responded with two unanswered scores of their own. One of their keys to getting this offense going in the air has been tight end Vernon Davis. The Falcons have not been the best team when it comes to defending the opposing team's TE.

Davis, who has been cold with QB Colin Kaepernick, found his groove today.
He has been showing incredible effort before and after the catch, racking up four receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown. He is averaging nearly 19.0 yards per catch against this Falcons secondary. San Francisco must re-establish their roots with Frank Gore and Vernon Davis in order to climb back into this one.

The Falcons have struggled with tight ends. Seattle's Zach Miller had a carrer day with 142 yards last week.
