Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone has wasted no time trying to round out Buffalo's 2013 coaching staff. According to Jason La Canfora, the Bills have been granted permission to interview Jacksonville Jaguars assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Mel Tucker and New York Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.
Tucker has been a defensive coordinator in the NFL since the 2008 season, when he was the defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns. Tucker left Cleveland for Jacksonville prior to the 2009 season, and has served as Jacksonville's DC ever since.
Following Jack Del Rio's dismissal as head coach during the 2011 season, Tucker was named Jacksonville's interim head coach, and went 2-3 in five games. Though he wasn't selected as Jacksonville's head coach following the season, Tucker was named assistant head coach.
Mike Pettine, Buffalo's other candidate for its defensive coordinator position, has served as the Jets' defensive coordinator since the 2009 season. Between 2002-08, Pettine was a member of Baltimore's coaching staff, starting out as a coaching assistant before being promoted to Baltimore's outside linebackers coach in 2005. Pettine held the same position through 2008, before leaving to join Rex Ryan's staff in New York.
