Rex Ryan to hold press conference Tuesday morning

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets and head coach Rex Ryan will hold a press conference on Tuesday morning.

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan will hold a press conference on Tuesday morning, in the same vein as every other team in the league that is out of the playoffs. Ryan will likely speak to the season, fan expectations as well as his own, and where the team goes from here.

All of this is standard for teams at this point in the season/postseason/offseason. Unlike the rest of the teams, though, the Jets have actually violated the NFL's media relations policy with the conference, as noted by SB Nation New York.

Under the policy, teams are required to schedule a press conference with the head coach during the week immediately following the end of the team's season. For the Jets, that was one week after the conclusion of Week 17, as the Jets weren't even close to making the playoffs.

The Jets had originally scheduled a conference for 4:45 p.m. ET Dec. 31, but it was canceled "due to an organizational decision." It's unclear if there will be any disciplinary action from the league based on the rule violation.

The team recently fired general manager Mike Tannenbaum, and are conducting a search for his replacement. Some changes have already been made on the coaching staff as well, with quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano.

In regards to Sparano, it was actually reported about a week ago that he'd been fired, but was at team headquarters on Monday. Ryan himself received a lot of criticism after the team finished 6-10, a clear regression from previous years. Ryan is entering his fifth year as coach of the Jets, and has a 34-30 record at the helm.

San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble is considered the front-runner to replace Tannenbaum.
