Mike Zimmer has been leading the Bengals' defense since 2008.

Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer will interview for the head coach opening for the Cleveland Browns, according to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer.

The Browns are trying to replace former head coach Pat Shurmur, who was fired Dec. 31. On the same day, the team fired general manager Tom Heckert.

Zimmer has been the defensive coordinator for the Bengals since 2008. He's also coached for the Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons.

Shurmur coached the Browns for just two seasons. He led Cleveland to a 4-12 record in 2011 and improved by just one game in 2012, going 5-11.

All in all, Shurmur, who was the offensive coordinator for the St. Louis Rams previously, was 9-23 overall with the Browns. The team finished fourth in the AFC North in both seasons.

The Browns are also considering, among others, Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians and Montreal Alouettes coach Marc Trestman.
