San Diego hired Indianapolis vice president of football operations Tom Telesco as its new general manager.
The San Diego Chargers general manager search is over as the team will introduce Tom Telesco as its new general manager on Wednesday.
The 40-year-old Telesco comes to San Diego after spending 15 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. He just finished his first season as the vice president of football operations after serving as the director of player personnel for six seasons. Telesco will be introduced at an afternoon press conference on Wednesday.
In San Diego, Telesco will replace former general manager A.J. Smith who had held the job since 2003. The selection of Telesco came as a bit of an upset as a number of NFL sources expected Chargers' director of player personnel Jimmy Raye to be promoted. Raye will now interview with the New York Jets.
One of Telesco's first orders of business will be to hire a new head coach. In addition to Smith, the Chargers also fired head coach Norv Turner. With his ties to the Colts, there is some speculation Raye could bring Colts' offensive coordinator Bruce Arians with him to San Diego.
