Brian Cushing injury: Concussion won't keep Texans LB from Week 5

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The former USC standout will not miss time with a concussion.

Despite suffering a concussion on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks during their 23-20 overtime defeat, linebacker Brian Cushing is believed to have a good chance of playing this weekend versus the San Francisco 49ers, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Cushing has to go through a battery of tests and a rigid protocol as does any other NFL player with a concussion, but if he passes, things look good for him moving forward.

Coach Gary Kubiak expressed his confidence in Cushing's availability, per the article:

"(Cushing’s) feeling much better," coach Gary Kubiak said. "He was a part of the meetings. He was a part of everything that we were doing.

Before leaving in the second half of the Seattle game, Cushing racked up a team-high nine tackles and one quarterback hit. On the season, Cushing is leading the team with 25 tackles to accompany a sack and an interception which he returned for a touchdown against the San Diego Chargers in Week 1.

Should Cushing not be able to play, Tim Dobbins is listed behind him on the depth chart. An eight-year veteran Dobbins made 43 tackles in 14 games last year for the Texans.
