NFL news roundup: David Wilson, Rob Gronkowski injuries and more

New York Giants running back David Wilson may have spinal stenosis, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will miss Week 6 and more you might have missed from Friday.

New York Giants running back David Wilson may have spinal stenosis, which is a narrowing of the spinal column. Pittsburgh Steelers, USC or Georgia fans may remember that this is the same condition outside linebacker Jarvis Jones was diagnosed with in college. It's a serious injury, but one that doesn't totally eliminate a player from being able to play football, and the timetable still seems like "a few weeks" for Wilson.

Gronk expected out for Week 6

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is expected to miss Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints. Gronkowski has practiced a full week once again, and reports that he was likely to play surfaced, once again. Once again, the target date is another week down the line, in Week 7.

Tragedy for Peterson

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson lost his 2-year-old son on Friday, after the child was admitted to a Sioux Falls, S.D., hospital earlier in the week. Peterson's son was the victim of a beating allegedly given by the man dating the boy's mother. Peterson plans to play on Sunday and has asked for as much privacy as possible in the matter. Our full StoryStream on the matter can be found here.

Williams out for season

Chicago Bears linebacker D.J. Williams is out for the season with a torn pectoral muscle. Williams was brought in to fill the void left by Brian Urlacher, at least until rookie second-round pick Jon Bostic was ready. Now, Bostic will be thrust into the starting role. It's a tough break for Williams, who doesn't seem to have many seasons left.

Williams, Washington fined

The NFL released its weekly fines list on Friday. Both of Buffalo Bills cornerback Aaron Williams and Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington were given $21,000 fines. Williams was penalized for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Cleveland Browns wide receiver Davone Bess, while Washington was fined for roughing the passer when he hit Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.
