Cecil Shorts injury: Jaguars WR out for remainder of Broncos game

Mike Ehrmann

After suffering a shoulder sprain in the first quarter against the Broncos, the Jaguars leading receiver won't return.

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts will not return to the game against the Broncosaccording to the team. Shorts sprained his shoulder in the opening minutes against Denver and headed the the locker room. The Jaguars leading receiver left the game before logging a catch.

Shorts had been the go-to receiver in the absence of Justin Blackmon, who missed the first four games of the season after being suspended. In his third year out of the University of Mount Union, Shorts has 31 receptions for 411 yards and a score on the year.

In his absence, little-used wideouts Mike Brown and Ace Sanders have seen game action opposite Blackmon. The Jaguars entered Sunday 29th in the league in passing offense, with just three touchdowns through the air. Quarterbacks Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne have combined to throw nine interceptions. Losing their best deep-threat and most consistent target certainly won't help cover a 27-point spread.
