Last second, do or die ... the way the New England Patriots played this week against the Saints, all season really, it looked like an impossible situation. And it very nearly was. But one final shot to Kenbrell Thompkins in the end zone with the last few seconds ticking off the game clock turned into a touchdown that gave the Patriots the win.
New England got the ball back with 1:13 left on the clock, with a little help from the Saints' play-calling (more on that tomorrow). Julian Edelman couldn't hang on to a pair of critical passes on second and third down. On fourth-and-4, Tom Brady hit Austin Collie for a first down, with less than 15 seconds left.
They spiked the ball to stop the clock. Second down and 10 yards, from the Saints' 17-yard line.
At the snap, Thompkins headed right for the back corner of the end zone. Brady found him, through the arms of a defensive back, for the touchdown.
That was Tom Brady's 32nd comeback drive of his career.
