Manuel was injured in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns on a Thursday night, spraining his LCL. The original diagnosis put Manuel out 4-6 weeks. Should Manuel could back in a month, it would be approximately six weeks from the day he was hurt.
Bills CEO Russ Brandon talked about Manuel and his hopes for the future, per the story:
"He’s here constantly going through the rehab process with our training staff," said Brandon in his weekly appearance on Bills flagship station WGR Sportsradio 550. "Hopefully he’ll continue to progress. I don’t have a timetable at this point, but hopefully we can get EJ back on the field as soon as possible. I know that’s what he wants too. Coach (Marrone) will address it later today. Hopefully we’ll have him back in the next month or so."
Before getting injured, Manuel was playing very well for a rookie. The first round pick and Florida State product had thrown for 985 yards and five touchdowns compared to three interceptions. More importantly, Manuel had the Bills at 2-2 and competing for a wild-card spot.
Without Manuel, the Bills have had to play the likes of Jeff Tuel and Thad Lewis. This week, Buffalo signed Matt Flynn after Lewis sprained his foot against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon.
