Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts III said that because of his sprained shoulder, he still needs help putting on his jersey and has trouble sleeping at night due to the pain, reports Hays Carlyon of the Florida Times-Union.
The third-year pro sprained his sternoclavicular joint, a tendon connecting the breastbone and the collarbone, during last week's loss to the Broncos. He said the injury is improving and has not been ruled out yet for Sunday's game against the Chargers, but it's hard to imagine a receiver unable to raise his arms without pain being very effective. Ben Roethlisberger missed three games last season with a similar injury.
Mike Brown will serve as Shorts' backup with rookie Ace Sanders nursing a concussion. Shorts' potential absence could mean more double coverage for Justin Blackmon, who put up 326 receiving yards in his first two games back from a four-game suspension to start the season.
Shorts has 31 catches for 411 yards and one touchdown in 2013.
