Cutler limped off the field during Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins. Initially he was able to walk off the field with the help of trainers, but eventually had to be taken by cart to the Bears' locker room. The extent of the injury was unknown, but it was serious enough to require doctors to take a closer look on Monday.
The Bears lost a close game to the Redskins, but the damage could be far larger than a single lost game. Even though backup quarterback Josh McCown played well in a limited role, it's unclear whether he can be counted on for anything more than spot play -- or whether his success on Sunday was a byproduct of the Redskins' defense having a lack of film on the reserve quarterback.
Both Chicago and Detroit lost on Sunday, opening the door for the Green Bay Packers to take a half-game lead in the NFC North provided they can beat the Cleveland Browns. If the Bears are unable to rely on Cutler, it could drastically hurt their ability to stay in step.
