Colts honor Peyton Manning before Broncos game

Manning waved to the crowd for a couple of minutes prior to kickoff on Sunday night.

Peyton Manning will forever be a hero in the city of Indianapolis. On Sunday night as he made his first appearance at Lucas Oil Stadium since becoming the Broncos' quarterback, a capacity crowd roared when he took the field.

As Manning was warming up on the sidelines, the Colts played a tribute video highlighting all of his accomplishments in Indy. Once the video concluded, Manning removed his helmet and began waving to the crowd for a couple of minutes. For a man who once held the key to the city, it was a fitting return -- nothing cheesy or over-the-top, but heartfelt and sincere. After a lot of ugliness in the media the past week, it was a welcome change of pace for arguably the most intriguing game of the season.

Here were some of the highlights of the pregame ceremony.
