The Jets have activated veteran quarterback David Garrard to the active roster and have released Brady Quinn, according to the team's official Twitter account. Garrard initially participated in OTAs with the Jets but was forced to suspend his comeback due to lingering injuries. Quinn was signed after being released by the Seahawks, following final cuts in August.
Garrard has battled knee injuries over the last few seasons but felt good enough to take a physical and be added to the Jets exempt list. The veteran had two weeks to prove he could participate in practice for the Jets and now will serve as a veteran backup to rookie Geno Smith. Garrard has spent the last three offseasons with three different teams and this is the first time he will be on an active roster in the regular season during that period.
It is unclear if Garrard will be active for the Jets' Week 8 matchup against the Bengals in Cincinnati.
