Rey Maualuga injury: Bengals LB leaves with concussion, bad knee

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Bengals could be without linebacker Rey Maualuga in the second half.

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga left Sunday's game against the New York Jets with an apparent concussion and a knee injury.

Maualuga attempted to tackle running back Chris Ivory in the first half of Sunday's game when he took a shoulder hit to his helmet and went limp. He remained down on the field for some time before leaving with the help of trainers. Dual injuries occurred on the play as the linebacker took a hit to the head, believed to be a concussion, while also having his leg pinned under him following the attempted tackle. The Bengals announced he was "questionable" to return with a knee injury, but according to Darryl Slater, he's out with a concussion.

Cincinnati will turn to fourth-year linebacker Vincent Rey while Maualuga is off the field. Rey has played every game the last three seasons on special teams, but has limited experience as a starting option. He has recorded 40 career tackles with the Bengals and is hardly a replacement for the team's most reliable middle linebacker.
