The Carolina Panthers have become one of the league's hottest picks, but they face their toughest test of the last month against the San Francisco 49ers. It's time for Cam Newton and Co. to prove they can hang with the league's elite, not just manhandle bad football teams.

More on the matchup: The Panthers and 49ers last met in 2010 at a time when neither team resembled its current iteration. Matt Moore threw two touchdowns in a Panthers win, relying on the leg of long-standing kicker John Kasay to get Carolina over the top, 23-20. Jim Harbaugh's team is seeing Cam Newton for the first time and has the defensive talent to derail the quarterback. The Panthers will likely turn their attention to the run, but this is the biggest test of the Panthers' season against a team with a lot to play for in the NFC West.
