Richie Incognito faces 4-game maximum suspension per NFL labor deal

Richie Incognito's indefinite suspension can only last through Week 13. After that, the Dolphins will need to decide whether to keep the guard or to cut him.

Richie Incognito's indefinite suspension by the Miami Dolphins can last a maximum of four games under the labor deal struck by the NFL and the players' union, according to Pro Football Talk. As a result, Incognito could be back playing or released by Week 14, when the Dolphins play the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Incognito's suspension comes in the wake of Jonathan Martin's sudden departure from the team amid reports that he received constant harassment from teammates, Incognito chief among them. The NFL is currently investigating the allegations, which include the threatening and racist text messages and voicemails sent to Martin by Incognito.

Incognito could still return to the team earlier than Week 14, perhaps if the NFL investigation quickly concludes that the guard engaged in abusive behavior. He could also be suspended again, though, if the team would have to find reason to do so (and Incognito appears perfectly capable of providing that reason).

The decision date will be Dec. 2, the day after the Dolphins' Week 13 bout against the New York Jets.
