NFL news roundup: Gary Kubiak to return Sunday, Sam Baker to injured reserve and more

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak will return Sunday, Atlanta Falcons left tackle Sam Baker was placed on injured reserve and more you might have missed from Tuesday.

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is expected to coach on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders. Kubiak missed the team's Week 10 game against the Arizona Cardinals after suffering a minor stroke the week prior. Kubiak had collapsed on the field during Houston's Week 9 game. Wade Phillips served as the interim head coach last week.

Read on for more you may have missed from Tuesday:

Baker to IR

Atlanta Falcons left tackle Sam Baker was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday. Baker has been dealing with knee injuries since the preseason and has been active in just four games this season He played in Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers, but was on the sidelines again when the Falcons took on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10. He could likely play again this season health-wise, but the team felt that he should be shut down to recover fully.

Foster placed on IR

Houston Texans running back Arian Foster was officially placed on injured reserve on Tuesday. Foster has been dealing with a back and hamstring injuries all season. He missed his first action of the season this past week, and has been ineffective off and on in the games he did play. The Texans will turn to backup Ben Tate, who has been productive in relief thus far.

Reynolds suspended

Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker LaRoy Reynolds has been suspended four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs. Reynolds was signed as an undrafted free agent and made the 53-man roster with an impressive training camp. He's appeared in nine games and has played primarily on special teams, but he'll be shut down for four games.

James out for season

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Mike James will miss the remainder of the season with a broken left ankle. James, a rookie out of the sixth round, had taken over as the starter when Doug Martin was placed on injured reserve. James broke out in Week 8 with 158 yards on 28 carries and seemed to have a promising season ahead of him.

Reed released by Texans

The Houston Texans released safety Ed Reed on Tuesday. Reed had seen his role diminish in recent weeks, giving way to Shiloh Keo in the starting lineup. He played in just 13 defensive snaps in that game. He's also been banged up off and on, and has been critical of the team this season. It would be surprising to see him play again at this point.
