Chargers vs. Dolphins 2013 results: Miami holds on for 20-16 win over San Diego

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

It wasn't pretty, but the Dolphins came away with a win to stay in the playoff picture.

The Miami Dolphins are back to the .500 mark after holding on late to beat the San Diego Chargers at home on Sunday.

The Dolphins fell behind early after Philip Rivers found Antonio Gates for a touchdown. Despite having an injury-depleted offensive line, the Dolphins fought back and tied up the game heading into halftime.

The difference ended up being a Charles Clay touchdown, which was the result of an incredible individual effort on Clay's part. He plowed through one would-be tackler while leaving a handful of others in the dust on his way to the end zone for the 39-yard touchdown. He finished the game with six catches on seven targets for 90 yards and a touchdown. It was the biggest play from Miami's passing game all day since Ryan Tannehill had little protection and was sacked four times.

As crucial as Clay's touchdown proved to be, Miami's defense may have been the biggest reason for the win. Despite allowing Ryan Mathews to rush for over 120 yards, the Dolphins sacked Philip Rivers three times, twice at crucial moments in the game. Dolphins fans were rejoicing in Miami.

The win moves the Dolphins to 5-5 and keeps them firmly in the AFC playoff picture. San Diego, meanwhile, slips farther out of contention with the loss.

Fantasy studs and duds

The tight ends were the biggest fantasy studs in this game. Both Antonio Gates and Charles Clay caught touchdowns for their respective teams. Chargers running back Ryan Mathews racked up over 140 total yards for his fantasy owners as well.

Lamar Miller was a dud on Sunday. He only received four carries to go with his two catches out of the backfield. Miami's inability to get Miller involved in the offense has killed his fantasy value.

Did they cover?

The Chargers were favored by 2.5 points, according to Odds Shark, and failed to cover with the loss.
