Jabari Greer injury: Saints CB placed on injured reserve

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sport

Jabari Greer's knee injury will keep him out for the rest of the season.

The New Orleans Saints placed Jabari Greer on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday, two days after the cornerback suffered a significant knee injury against the San Francisco 49ers.

Greer jumped to defend a pass during the first quarter of New Orleans' game on Sunday. When he landed, his leg buckled awkwardly and Greer immediately fell to the ground and clutched his left knee. Trainers stabilized his knee with an air cast on the field before he was carted back to the locker room.

Losing Greer for the rest of the season is a significant blow for the Saints. He started all 10 games this season and was one of the team's veteran leaders. With Greer out, second-year cornerback Corey White will likely step into the starting lineup. White played 51 snaps on Sunday, his highest total this season, according to Pro Football FocusChris Carr will also likely see an increase in snaps as he moves into the nickel role.

The 31-year-old Greer will finish the season with 30 tackles, 12 pass deflections and one interception. His 12 pass deflections were by far New Orleans' highest total, with Keenan Lewis second on the team with eight.
