The latest questionable hit came in the Titans game against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Griffin ran across midfield, lowering his helmet and making contact with tight end Mychal Rivera who sustained a concussion on the play. There is no update on Rivera's status at this time, and he will need to pass the league's tests in order to play in Week 13.
It was the second hit of this kind in the last two months. In early October he led with his helmet against the New York Jets, hitting wide receiver Stephen Hill and drawing a $21,000 fine. Griffin alleged that he led with his shoulder, but regardless of his interpretation he is making contact with receiver's heads on a regular basis.
The suspension comes at a bad time for the Titans, who currently hold a wild card spot at 5-6. They face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 13 in a game with important ramifications in the AFC South. A win would put the Titans one game behind Indianapolis, and gives the team a chance to win a playoff spot without relying on the league's tie breaking scenario.
