Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has previously said that he understands he is "under the microscope" after earning a reputation for dirty play, but the lineman earned his third fine of the year for a throat slash gesture made against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after dropping running back Bobby Rainey for a three-yard loss.
Perhaps also the victim of previous circumstances, Houston Texans defensive end Antonio Smith received a $15,750 fine for his late hit to the head/neck region of Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne. Smith was previously suspended earlier in the year for swinging a helmet at Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito.
Steelers cornerback William Gay and Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake were also fined $15,750 each for hits on opposing quarterbacks. Gay hit Browns passer Jason Campbell in the facemask, while Wake hit Cam Newton in the chin, leaving the Panthers quarterback spitting up blood.
New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan was hit with a $10,000 fine after he hit Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. On Friday, Jordan told media that he wasn't surprised by the fine and that quarterbacks are protected by the league.
