NFL picks and predictions 2013, Seahawks vs. Falcons: Seattle the popular pick

Otto Greule Jr

Seattle will travel to Atlanta, attempting to get a small slice of payback for last season's playoff loss. SB Nation's NFL experts think the Seahawks will do just that.

When the 2013 schedule was released, the Week 10 matchup between the Falcons and Seahawks looked like a strong candidate for the game of the week. The two teams battled down to the final seconds in one of the most entertaining playoff games last season, and both figured to be Super Bowl contenders again this season. Things haven't gone as planned for the Falcons, and the matchup doesn't look nearly as good on paper now as it did then.

The Seahawks will once again travel to Atlanta, the site of last year's 30-28 playoff loss. They were in position to win that game, taking a 28-27 lead with 31 seconds to play, before a late Atlanta field goal ended their season. The Seahawks can't redeem that loss this week, but they may be able to gain a tiny piece of payback with a road win. Five of SB Nation's six NFL experts predict them to do just that. Only Matt Ufford picked the 2-6 Falcons.

Based on record alone, the matchup clearly favors the Seahawks, even on the road. The Seahawks have the best record in the NFC and are 4-1 on the road this season. Atlanta is just 2-2 at home and will be playing without Julio Jones and possibly Roddy White.

Looking at just those facts, it's easy to see why the Seahawks are a popular pick. It may, however, not be that cut and dry. Seattle is 8-1, but the Seahawks have not played their best football recently. Seattle scratched out a 14-9 road win two weeks ago in St. Louis, needing a goal-line stop in the final seconds to win. Last week, Seattle went down 21-0 at home against the 0-8 Buccaneers before mounting a comeback and winning in overtime. Seattle is still a very good team, but have proved to be vulnerable in recent weeks.

Despite those recent issues, all eight of CBS Sports' NFL experts are in agreement with the SB Nation majority.
