NFL picks and predictions 2013, Broncos vs. Chargers: San Diego expected to lose at home

Doug Pensinger

The Chargers aren't a bad team by any stretch, but experts have little faith they can topple a high-powered Broncos squad Sunday, even at Qualcomm.

The San Diego Chargers are having a fine season by many standards. The team sits in decent shape for the postseason with a 4-4 record, and can currently boast possession one of the NFL's best quarterbacks. Philip Rivers leads the NFL with a 72.2 completion percentage and is third with a 106.5 passer rating.

Matt Ufford offers you fantasy advice on Aaron Rodgers, finding a sub for Jamaal Charles and more.

However, the Chargers are sizable underdogs at home to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Across NFL panels at SB NationCBS SportsESPN and Yahoo!, only ESPN's Keyshawn Johnson was willing to side with the Chargers against the 7-1 Broncos. Given the Broncos' performances this season, it shouldn't be a complete surprise that they are so heavily favored. SB Nation has Denver on top of its latest power rankings, while San Diego ranks 14th.

The Broncos are favored by a touchdown on the road, according to OddsShark, so expert picks are in line with Vegas. Assuming the prognosticators are correct, Denver should improve to 8-1 this weekend.
