Buccaneers safety Mark Barron out vs. Rams

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Buccaneers will be without their durable starting safety on Sunday, and will have to turn to the bench for depth.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will miss a starter on defense against the St. Louis Rams. Safety Mark Barron stayed in Florida while the Buccaneers traveled to St. Louis on Saturday, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. He was initially listed as questionable with a hamstring injury.

This will be the first missed game of Barron's two-year career after the Bucs selected him No. 7 overall out of Alabama in 2012. He was injured in Week 15 against the 49ers in a Tampa Bay loss. Barron has collected 88 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions in 14 games this season. Fellow second-year safety Keith Tandy is listed as Barron's main backup. Tandy has already started three games this season for Dashon Goldson and secured 27 tackles, three interceptions and one forced fumble.

The Buccaneers are 4-10 on the season and have little to play for at this point in the season. After starting off on an 0-8 skid, however, the Bucs have been able to go 4-2 in the last six games.
