With quarterback Case Keenum sidelined with a thumb injury, the Texans relied upon Matt Schaub in Week 16, who completed 18-of-37 passes for 176 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in a 37-13 loss to the Denver Broncos. In nine games and seven starts in 2013, Schaub has tallied 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
On Monday, interim head coach Wade Phillips wouldn't commit to Schaub getting the start again in Week 17 over backup T.J. Yates or injured Keenum:
"We're going to look at all of that and see what the situation is for sure as far as injuries are concerned," Phillips said when asked if Schaub would start.
At running back, the Texans turned to rookie Dennis Johnson to fill in for Arian Foster, but a hip injury suffered by Johnson has him questionable to return in Week 17. With Deji Karim out with a broken collarbone, the likely starter if Johnson cannot play would be Grimes, a second-year running back that was signed by the Texans on Wednesday before Week 16.
