Da'Quan Bowers injury: Buccaneers DE placed on IR

Al Messerschmidt

Tampa Bay will be without Bowers for the final game of its season after shutting him down due to a knee ailment.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da'Quan Bowers has been placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, according to the team's official Twitter account.

To replace Bowers on the active roster, the Buccaneers are activating defensive end Scott Solomon to play against the New Orleans Saints. At 4-11, Tampa Bay has no reason to play Bowers and risk further injury.

Bowers has been a major disappointment since being selected in the second round of the 2011 draft. The former star at Clemson had knee surgery following his senior season, dropping him from a sure-fire top-10 pick to the second day of the draft.

In three seasons, Bowers has amassed only 45 tackles and 5.5 sacks. Even more disappointing is his 2013 campaign. Bowers has just seven tackles and a sack in 13 games, falling out of the rotation along the defensive front.
