Usama Young injury: Raiders safety put on injured reserve

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Raiders will need a replacements at safety moving forward.

The Raiders will have to go young at safety, following an injury to one of their veteran defensive backs. The Raiders have placed safety Usama Young on injured reserve with neck injury. The former Cleveland Brown suffered the injury during Week 13's loss to the Cowboys. Young is the second safety to suffer a serious injury this season. Veteran Tyvon Branch has also been out for a while with a broken fibula.

Young has played in all 12 games this season for the Raiders. The veteran has collected 26 tackles, 2.5 sacks and an interception this season for Oakland. Young started in Week 13 in Dallas and gathered three tackles in the process. Oakland is left with just Brandon Ross and former Pro Bowl cornerback Charles Woodson at safety. Ross was benched for Young recently, but has started nine games this season.

The Raiders will travel to the Meadowlands to face the Jets on Sunday.
