According to the report, the 22-year-old Bowers was arrested at a check-in counter after it was discovered he had a loaded .40 caliber firearm in his carry-on bag. Bowers was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday night.

Bowers, who just finished his second season with the Buccaneers, was set to board a US Airways flight from New York to Raleigh, North Carolina. A spokesman for the Buccaneers said Bowers is declining to comment on the incident as the organization investigates.
