Terron Armstead 40-yard dash comes in at 4.65

USA TODAY Sports

Arkansas Pine-Bluff offensive tackle Terron Armstead just clocked in a 4.65-second 40-yard dash.

You may not have heard of the University of Arkansas Pine-Bluff, but you will soon be hearing a lot more about their offensive tackle prospect, Terron Armstead, who ran an unofficial time of 4.65 seconds in the 40-yard dash Saturday morning. Armstead measured at 6'5, 304 pounds, and that dash time, if it holds up, would be up there among the fastest ever 40-yard dash from an offensive lineman.

Last year, the fastest time clocked in was Oklahoma's Donald Stevenson, now with the Chiefs, at 4.94 seconds. The fastest time in recent history was Maryland's Bruce Campbell, now with the Carolina Panthers, at 4.85 seconds.

Armstead also had a 1.64-second 10-yard split, which is a more important number for offensive lineman since they're rarely sprinting 40 yards down the field. NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said he had never seen an offensive lineman run faster than 4.7 seconds in the 40, so Armstead may have just set a record.

The dash numbers don't become official until much later in the day Saturday. In his second attempt, he ran an unofficial 4.71. This was not a clock glitch. The dude is fast.
