Ball spent last season with the Houston Texans after five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. Ball has played cornerback and safety during his career, possibly giving the Jaguars a versatile option. While he's played a reserve role most of his career, Ball does have 22 career starts, including 16 during the 2010 season.
Jacksonville is in need of secondary depth, as three of its top four cornerbacks from last season are not expected back. Derek Cox is a free agent, while Rashean Mathis retired earlier this month. Aaron Ross was released by the Jaguars and signed with the New York Giants. Ball played safety and cornerback for Houston last season, but spent the majority of his time at cornerback, according to Pro Football Focus.
Ball was a seventh-round draft for the Cowboys in the 2007 NFL Draft. At 6'2 and 191 pounds, he has the size the new Jaguars coaching staff covets at corner.
