This is a big move for the Raiders, who have been watching tons of talent walk out of their building this offseason. Roach will replace Philip Wheeler as the premier inside linebacker in Oakland, after he left for greener pastures and the Miami Dolphins, despite the Raiders reported best efforts to keep him.
Roach comes over from the Chicago Bears, spending years learning from Brian Urlacher and head coach Lovie Smith in the 4-3 system. Last year, Roach made 66 tackles and had 1.5 sacks to go along with a forced fumble.
The 27-year-old had his best campaign in 2009, when he amassed 75 tackles and a pair of sacks. With Oakland, Roach is guaranteed a first full-time starting gig, something he had been seeking.
