Willie Colon signs 1-year deal with Jets, according to report

Jason Bridge-US PRESSWIRE

Willie Colon was a free agent for all of two days, signing with the Jets on Friday after the Steelers released him on Wednesday.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Willie Colon has signed with the New York Jets, according to Jason La Canfora. The oft-injured Colon agreed to a one-year deal with the Jets, who will hope that the 29-year-old can stay healthy.

Colon missed the entire 2010 season with an Achilles injury and played just one game in 2011 after hurting his arm. It appeared as is he finally got healthy last season, starting 12 games, but a knee injury eventually landed him on injured reserve. Unsurprisingly, Pittsburgh cut him on Wednesday instead of paying him the $5.5 million he would have been owed in 2013.

The Steelers played Colon at tackle for the first six years if his career, but moved him to guard last season. It is unclear where the Jets envision him slotting in along their offensive front, but their main concern is just getting him healthy enough that he can play at all.
