The NFL is alive and kicking as more and more news filters in. Here's what you may have missed on Saturday.
The first Saturday of the new league year has come and gone, and while it wasn't quite as exciting as the first few days of free agency, there was still plenty of moves made throughout the league. Some players were signed, some were released and some popped up on the radar.
Here's what you may have missed.
Elvis Dumervil made headlines again on Saturday as news broke that he plans to find a new agent after his release from the Broncos due to a fax snafu. Since he's a free agent now, Dumervil has expressed a desire to play for the Dolphins, as he's from Miami. He's also on the Ravens' radar and, according to his agent, has received several calls from interested teams.
Free agent safety Craig Dahl signed a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49erson Saturday. An undrafted free agent, Dahl spent the last few years in St. Louis as an integral part of the Rams' defense and special teams.
The Patriots are building up their secondary, as they have signed of another defensive back. It was announced Saturday that they agreed to a one-year deal with Aqib Talib on Saturday. Talib will join the team's other free agent signees, Adrian Wilsonand Kyle Arrington.
Speaking of the Patriots, they announced the release of wide receiver Brandon Lloyd on Saturday. Lloyd was signed by the Patriots in 2012 and caught 74 passes for 911 yards and four touchdowns for the team. By releasing him, the Patriots will avoid playing Lloyd a $3 million roster bonus.
The Giants have remained busy throughout the free agency, announcing the signing of former Cowboys linebacker Dan Connor on Saturday. Connor also visited with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Oakland Raiders before deciding to settle on the Giants. He played in 14 games and recorded 57 tackles in 2012.
The Giants are also rumored to be hosting free agent tight end Brandon Myerssoon. Myers exploded on the scene in 2012 after catching 79 passes for 806 yards and four touchdowns, emerging as one of Carson Palmer's favorite targets. The Giants lost Martellus Bennett to the Bears in free agency and may look to sign the new tight end for the 2013 season and beyond.
The Patriots also signed linebacker Niko Koutouvides on Saturday, adding him to the other defensive players they've signed since the new league year began. Koutouvides played the last two seasons with the Patriots and contributed heavily on special teams.
On Saturday, news broke that when defensive end Michael Bennett agreed to terms with the Seattle Seahawks, he didn't even give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a chance to match the offer before he signed his new deal. Bennett will join Cliff Avril in Seattle and should help the Seahawks when it comes to rushing the passer, something they struggled with in 2012.
Jake Long, arguably the top free agent available, has reportedly been hashing out a contract with the St. Louis Rams since free agency began. While the holdup was thought to be due to a medical condition, news broke on Saturday that the delay is actually about money. Reportedly, Long is looking for something between $10 and $11 million a year in a multi-year deal.
