Nnamdi Asomugha will visit the Saints on Monday. Though he has been heavily linked to the 49ers, Asomugha could be drawn to New Orleans by a connection with defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.
Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha is set to visit the New Orleans Saints on Monday, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area. Asomugha is an unrestricted free agent after a somewhat rocky two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Saints, meanwhile, are desperate for help in the secondary.
According to Hans Petersen at the SB Nation blog Canal Street Chronicles, Asomugha could be interested in following defensive coordinator Rob Ryan to New Orleans. Asomugha played under Ryan with the Oakland Raiders, and reportedly almost joined his former coach with the Dallas Cowboys in 2011.
The San Francisco 49ers are also pursuing Asomugha, according to reports. The Niners are in need of bodies in the secondary after losing Dashon Goldson in free agency. The Saints simply need to upgrade after giving up 4,681 yards, and 31 touchdowns to just 15 interceptions through the air last season.
The Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos and Houston Texans are also reportedly interested in the veteran cornerback. Asomugha has 95 tackles and four interceptions over his last two seasons. He is entering his 11th year in the NFL.
